    perle cotton

    Can perle cotton [#12] be used in the sewing machine?  I'd like to do limited quilting with it.

    Yes, that is the thickest you may be able to use in a needle. If you have trouble with it in a needle (I would use a 110/80 topstitch needle with it) or the largest topstitch you can find., then use it in the bobbin. Put a regular weight thread in the top and the heavier thread in the bobbin. Fix your design so you can quilt from the back of the quilt or decorative stitch from the back of the top. Thus, the right side will be down and the bobbin thread will stitch directly onto it.
